Why it’s so hard to get out of our own way

Emotions! Our emotions can be deadly weapons that we don’t always see coming or don’t immediately recognize. This is especially true in the midst of a disagreement.

For me, I know I’m up in my “feelings’ when I start saying Well, I feel like… or I feel that… At that moment, I have to take a step back and analyze my thoughts and actions. I’ll be the first to admit, being emotional about a situation can feel good to your flesh, but can make a bad situation worse.

So in those times, stop and ask yourself, I am thinking or speaking from a place of maturity or have I reverted to childhood? If it’s the latter, humble yourself and refocus your energy toward a solution.

  1. You hit the nail right on the head. Sometimes we’re not even responding to the issue at hand; we’re projecting our desire to feel right or working through some other unnamed trigger. Great post! #BLMGirl
