Hi, Yes, I need to cancel a reservation for pity at 6pm, please…

While in Atlanta, I had the pleasure of meeting a blind man named Jerry.  I was my guide at the “Dialogue in the Dark” exhibit.  This exhibit walks you through the life of a blind person.  While maneuvering through pitch black rooms with a walking stick and only having my senses of touch and sound, I was able to understand how it is to be blind.  Jerry has been blind since 2004 due to an eye disease.

Jerry is married with two children.  He said that when he lost since vision, he was so depressed that his wife had to check him into the hospital for treatment.  While in the hospital, he realized that he was so much more than just his sight and there were so many people who had bigger issues than he did.

Jerry canceled his pity party and learned how to enjoy life again. When I met him, he was in such great spirits, very positive and motivational.  Hearing his humbling testimony changed my life.  1 Peter 5:9: Resist him(the enemy), standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Can you praise him through your struggles like Job did? Job 1:21-22: …Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised. In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.

How can I complain about my job or standing in a ridiculously long line at the grocery store when I have life? I HAVE LIFE! God breathes life into my nostrils every single day. He has a purpose for all of us and we are to praise Him through our ups and downs.

Good scriptures to highlight:
Job 22:21: Submit to God and be at peace with him; in this way prosperity will come to you.

Deuteronomy 31:8: The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.

Psalm 31:7: I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul.
