Momentarily discouraged

Last Tuesday, I was getting ready for bed and was discouraged that my job hunt hadn’t been going as expected.  I thought about how I knew I had the charisma and the drive, but getting potential employers to recognize that on paper was difficult.  I couldn’t understand why things were not working out. As I laid there God spoke to me.  He said that He was only doing what I asked Him to do!

When I apply for jobs as with many other things in my life, I always pray a similar prayer of, “God, you know my heart’s desires, but you also know what is best for me and if this job does not line up with Your will for me then I don’t want it!” So, with that prayer God was taking good care of me!  He blocks the unnecessary heartache that could be caused by taking a position that I am not supposed to have.  If I prayed saying, “God I want this job! Give it to me!” I would be setting myself up for failure.

Our timing is not God’s timing. We have to wait on Him to work on our behalf and allow him to provide for us. Psalms 40:1 says, I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He only wants what is best for us, it is when we step in that things get messed up!

Good scriptures to highlight:
1 Chronicles 28:20: David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the LORD is finished.

Job 4:5-6: But now trouble comes to you, and you are discouraged; it strikes you, and you are dismayed. Should not your piety be your confidence and your blameless ways your hope?

Romans 12:12: Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
