Who is your soul tied to?

Nic’s Soul Tie definition: It is the cleaving together of two souls. They can be between anyone including: family, friends or anyone you let in.

A Godly soul tie is pure, untainted and without selfish desires or demands.

In Godly relationships, soul ties can bring great blessings. After seeking God’s wisdom, they are created between a husband and wife. Genesis 2:24 says, Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and shall become united and cleave to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.

A soul tie between friends was displayed with Jonathan and David. 1 Samuel 18:3-4 says, Then Jonathan made a covenant with David, because he loved him as his own life. And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was on him and gave it to David, and his armor, even his sword, his bow, and his girdle. This is the kind of love Jesus had for us when he laid down his life for us. John 15:13 reads, Greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends. And, believe me, I am a friend of Jesus!

Soul ties can also be destructive. These relationships can negatively influence our walk with Jesus and our lives. 2 Corinthians 6:14 says, Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers [do not make mismated alliances with them or come under a different yoke with them, inconsistent with your faith]. For what partnership have right living and right standing with God with iniquity and lawlessness? Or how can light have fellowship with darkness?

I met a guy this past weekend and during our first conversation I told him I was a minister, he said, “I do not go to church…at all, but that’s not going to be a problem right???!!!” My response was, “Actually, yes it is!” Recognize who you are dealing with and properly discern the situation. Ministering to a person about your Christian walk is not the same as starting a relationship with the unsaved.

A sexual soul tie can be created when a man and woman fornicates or commits adultery outside of marriage. The two people’s souls become cleaved together just as one does in a marriage. SIDE BAR: Why do you think so many people act crazy during break ups! These soul ties are extremely hard to break! In Gen 34:1-8, Shechem, did not love Dinah, but lusted for her after he defiled her and desired to marry her because of the ungodly soul tie formed.

We are to honor God with our bodies. We are sacred and the Holy Spirit dwells in our temples. Which means we must keep our soul ties pure, untainted and without selfish desires or demands (as mentioned above). See 1 Corinthians 6:16-19 below.

Ask God for the wisdom to discern the right relationships for your life.

Ask God to help you release ungodly soul ties.

Remember, this walk in not easy, but it is worth it!

Good scriptures to highlight:
Psalm 55:22: Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.

Psalm 37:3-5: Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:

Gen 34:1-8: NOW DINAH daughter of Leah, whom she bore to Jacob, went out [unattended] to see the girls of the place. And when Shechem son of Hamor the Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, he seized her, lay with her, and humbled, defiled, and disgraced her. But his soul longed for and clung to Dinah daughter of Jacob, and he loved the girl and spoke comfortingly to her young heart’s wishes. And Shechem said to his father Hamor, Get me this girl to be my wife. Jacob heard that [Shechem] had defiled Dinah his daughter. Now his sons were with his livestock in the field. So Jacob held his peace until they came. But Hamor father of Shechem went out to Jacob to have a talk with him. When Jacob’s sons heard it, they came from the field; and they were distressed and grieved and very angry, for [Shechem] had done a vile thing to Israel in lying with Jacob’s daughter, which ought not to be done. And Hamor conferred with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem craves your daughter [and sister]. I beg of you give her to him to be his wife.

1 Corinthians 6:16-19 says: Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body, this is why some males that believe they have to keep sexually pure, may use products found on sites such as ltc and others. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
