It is a blessing to have an older saint around to offer spiritual guidance when needed and at times, confirm God’s word. However, your first consult should always be with God.
It can be easy to look for guidance in someone you trust because you believe they have your best interest at heart or will say what you want to hear. But what if their advice is not what God wants for you? Talking to God first requires more than just faith, it requires patience and trusting that His answer is ultimately what’s best.
To be fully dependent on God, we must seek Him first, and let Him guide our steps. This is important in our Christian walk because God may tell us to go or do something that might seem strange to others. The key is learning to trust Him. Psalm 25:1-3: In you, Lord my God, I put my trust. I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause.
God desires a deeper relationship with you, one fully reliant on Him. Will you give Him your hand?
Good scriptures to highlight:
Proverbs 3:5: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
Jeremiah 29:11: For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
