Professionally, I’ve made many mistakes and had plenty of failures. Thankfully, my desire to grow and become great has allowed me to have way more successes. Over the years, I have learned a lot but there are a few things that have helped me make more money and advance in my career. Here are three things every professional woman needs to know:
1. Even if no one cares, give your best. I regret the times I gave a subpar effort and unfortunately, there were a few times it didn’t go unseen. The reality is you have to find value in your work. Greatness and lack of effort can’t co-exist.
2. Build a stellar portfolio. Some of us want to stay at the same job for 30 years, and others want to move around and climb the corporate ladder. Whatever your goals, you better make sure you’re building your portfolio along the way. Keep stats, images, infographics or whatever you need to define your level of success. Your portfolio lets people know you are exactly who you say you are.
3. Make the right connections. When I was fresh out of college, I wouldn’t dare entertain the thought of networking or going to meet ups. As I’ve matured, I see the value in making the right connections, so I attend multiple events every month to meet new people. And thankfully, some of the great people I’ve met have helped me professionally and personally.
