Is social media a death tunnel?

The other day I was thinking about a high-school friend and wondered how she was doing. To my surprise, I ran into her Saturday night at a benefit dinner, and found out she was doing really well! It warmed my heart to see her, her husband and two children. I asked her why she’d been MIA and not on social media, and her response was that she wanted to keep some aspect of her life private. I respect it.

Social media is fun, it’s an easy way to kill time, and keeps us updated on friends and family, however, it also causes us to so easily mind other people’s business. 🙁

I think social media is great if you’re trying to connect with people but let’s be honest, many of us use it to gossip and pass judgment on others. For these reasons, I don’t share much personal info and try not to get caught up in the nonsense.

If we are constantly working to better ourselves, there’s no time to worry about anyone else. Additionally, there’s always something in our lives we can improve so let that be our first priority. Proverbs 20:19 says, A gossip betrays a confidence; so avoid anyone who talks too much.”

Is there an area of your life you’d rather work on than get caught up in the social media death tunnel? Comment below.
